Jesus Will Save His People

The incarnation of the Son of God is one of the great doctrines of the Word of God. The Son of God who existed eternally in the past as God became a man. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit in the virgin womb of Mary and given the name Jesus at His birth. An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and instructed him to call the son to which his wife would give birth, Jesus. The angel said, “And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)
The name Jesus is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew name Joshua which means “Yahweh saves.” At His birth the Christ was given the name Jesus because He would save His people from their sins. We must think of the birth and death of Jesus as being very closely connected for it was through His death and resurrection that He saved His people!
So, during this Christmas season and throughout the whole year may we remember that the fundamental purpose of Christ’s birth was that He might save His people from their sins through His death and resurrection.
