“To Marry or not to Marry”

That is the question which seems to dominate this chapter. In this passage (1 Corinthians 7:25-40) we might summarize Paul’s advice on how the Corinthians were to answer that question by stating five considerations. 1) Before getting married, consider the times (vv. 25-28). (2) Before getting married, consider that the time is short (vv. 29-31). (3) Before getting married, consider the time and effort you must expend to care for your spouse (vv. 32-35). (4) Before getting married, consider whether you are able to exercise self-control and remain single (vv. 36-38). (5) Before getting married as a widow, consider that you may be happier to remain unmarried (vv. 39-40).
