An angel of the Lord announced to some shepherds that the birth of Christ had taken place in the city of David – Bethlehem. After he gave them a sign by which they may find and identify the Christ Child, a multitude of angels joined him praising God, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men God favors.”
Believing what God had revealed to them through the heavenly messenger, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” When they found the things just as it had been told them, they glorified God and made known the saying which was told them concerning the Child. That saying was probably Luke 2:11, “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
