“The Seed of the Woman”

We are now officially in the holiday season! Thanksgiving is behind us and Christmastime’s a comin’! One of the songs we sing claims in its very title that it’s the most wonderful time of the year! I would agree, but perhaps not for the same reasons the songwriter lists. While I enjoy all the fun and festivities of the season, what makes the season most wonderful is the wonder of wonders that God became a Man!
The One named Jesus at His birth existed before His birth. The Son of God who existed from all eternity stepped into time! The eternal Son of God became a Man without ceasing to be God! One of the ways the Scriptures teach the Incarnation is by referring to God’s Son as a descendant of humans. For example, He is the seed or descendant of Eve, Abraham, David and Mary. In this month of Sundays, we will take a look at each one of these. We begin today considering Jesus as the seed of the woman (Gen 3:15). In this verse, it is prophesied that the seed of the woman, Jesus Christ, would defeat Satan who through his temptation brought sin and death to the human race. It is only through Christ’s death for our sins and His death conquering resurrection that we can be forgiven and have eternal life!
