Jesus was fit to be the kind of High Priest necessary to save completely and eternally those who come to God through Him (Hebrews 7:26-28). The Levitical priests were not able to provide complete forgiveness and eternal salvation because neither they nor the sacrifices they offered were fit or suitable to perfectly cleanse people of their sins. Jesus, our great high priest, is holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners; therefore, He unlike those priests does not need to offer up sacrifices for His own sins for He was without sin (4:15). Unlike the priests under the Old Covenant who offered up sacrifices daily without ever achieving complete forgiveness, Jesus offered Himself up once for all and with His perfect sacrifice perfected forever those who believe in Him (10:14). He Himself has been perfected forever as our High Priest (7:28). Jesus is completely and perfectly fit to save us to the uttermost!
