One day as Jesus entered a certain village, ten lepers called out asking Him to heal them (Luke 17:11-19). Jesus healed all ten of the leprous men, but only one came back to thank Him. The one who did return to give thanks to the Lord was a Samaritan. Jesus responded to this sad fact, “Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” That only one out of ten returned to give thanks was disturbing, but even more concerning was the one was a foreigner. Jesus’ question was a rebuke of God’s people, Israel. Evidently, some among the ten were Jewish, perhaps even the other nine. Of all people, we who are God’s people should not only be thankful, but render thanksgiving to God!
