In light of the governor’s ban on gatherings of 50 or more, and the president’s guidance indicating we should avoid gathering in groups of ten or more, we have decided to cancel all services here at Hillside for two weeks. We are hopeful we can gather once again on Palm Sunday, but we will keep you posted. We plan to post updates here on our website periodically.
This situation called to my mind John F. Kennedy’s famous words, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” We have been asked by President Trump to, among other things, avoid gather in groups of ten or more. So that is what we plan to do for our country as citizens for these two weeks. As Christians there is an even higher calling. Jesus has commanded us to love our neighbor as ourselves. One way we can love our neighbor is to do what we can to protect them from this virus. The elderly and those with health conditions are the most vulnerable. Certainly, we should limit our physical contact with them during these two weeks. I will not be scheduling any regular visitation during this time, but will certainly be available for any of our people should a need arise. In these days of uncertainty, perhaps, there will more open doors to do good to others and to share with them the wonderful love of Christ. May God use us, the church, during this time for His glory!
