In what is frequently called the “Lord’s Prayer,” Jesus instructs us to direct our prayers to our Father in heaven. In this model prayer, He includes seven petitions we should ask of the Father. The first three are related to God and His glory; the remaining four are related to us and our needs.
In the first half of the prayer, Jesus directs us to ask that the Father’s name be hallowed, that His kingdom come, and that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. These will be answered when God’s kingdom comes to earth for at that time His name will be hallowed and His will will be done here as it is in heaven. We, the followers of Christ, must always hallow His name and do His will as we pray and look for His kingdom to come.
