Jesus used the analogy of good and bad trees to illustrate the state of a person’s heart before God (Mat 12:33-37). And as a good tree bears good fruit and a bad tree bears bad fruit, so it is with people. People are “bad” by nature and in order to be considered good before God they must undergo a change. This change comes about when a person believes in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. The Lord gives him a new heart (a good heart!), and new desires. It is only then that he can and will do what God considers good. On judgment day, every person will give an account of his life before God. All the words he has said and the works he has done will be examined before the great tribunal. Those works will be the evidence of either a good heart or a bad heart. Those with good hearts, changed by the grace of God will enter God’s eternal kingdom.
