One day the Lord Jesus asked His disciples what people were saying about Him (Mat 16:13-17). Who did they think He was? He asked, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” “So, they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets’” (Matthew 16:14). Jesus then asked the disciples, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter gave one of the great confessions of faith found in the Bible, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” That this is the correct answer is confirmed by Christ Himself when He replies, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” There are two parts to the answer. That Jesus is the Christ indicates that He is the promised Messiah. That He is the Son of God indicates that He shares the nature of His Father. Jesus is God in the flesh!
Who do you say that Jesus is? This question is of eternal consequence for only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God have eternal life (John 20:30-31). Jesus said to the unbelieving Pharisees, “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:24). To die in your sins is to die unforgiven of your sins. Please do not die in your sins! Believe in Jesus today Who died for sinners and rose again the third day!
