The King Came

Palm Sunday is significant because on it Jesus fulfilled an Old Testament prophecy. It is found in Zechariah 9, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.” (Zechariah 9:9) By riding into Jerusalem on a donkey Jesus was making the bold proclamation that he was Israel’s promised King. The response of the disciples in both words and actions indicated that they were hailing Jesus as their King (Luke 19:28-40).
The King has come and is coming again! King Jesus ascended back into heaven after His resurrection where He received the kingdom and is presently ruling over it at the right hand of His Father (Dan. 7:13-14, Acts 2:32-36, Hebrews 1:3, 13). In the parable Jesus spoke just before entering Jerusalem on the donkey, He is represented by the nobleman who went into a far country (heaven) to receive a kingdom and to return. Upon His return He will destroy His enemies and reign forever upon the earth (Luke 19:11-27, especially verses 11-12, 27).
Are you ready for the coming King? Have you submitted to Him and His rule?
