Christ and the Ordinances

We refer to baptism and the Lord’s Supper as ordinances. Both of these ordinances have to do with the death and resurrection of Christ. In baptism of which the proper mode is immersion, the death, burial and resurrection of Christ is symbolized. In the Lord’s Supper we proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. The bread represents Christ’s body which was given on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, and the wine or juice represents the blood He shed for the forgiveness of our sins.
Both of the ordinances are designed to be observed by believers in Christ only. The one being baptized is indicating that through faith in Christ he was united with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. The one who observes the Lord’s Supper…
