For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Through His death and resurrection, Jesus provided the basis for our salvation. We were sinners and Christ on the cross died for our sins so that we might be forgiven. We were unrighteous, and He provided for us a righteousness by which we could stand before God. In this verse then we see that Christ became sin for us and paid the penalty for our sins. We also see that through His death and resurrection we become righteous. This is the great exchange! Christ took our sins, and He gave us His righteousness!
Let us meditate on this great truth as we partake of the Lord’s Supper.
