We read in Psalm 119, “Your Word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11). The psalmist indicated that an intake of the Word of God which includes hearing it, reading it, studying it, memorizing it, and meditating on it enables the child of God to resist sin. The New Testament includes a companion verse, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16). As we hide the Word of Christ in our hearts, we can then teach and admonish one another toward a closer walk with the Lord. Also, letting God’s Word indwell us engenders and enables the worship of the Lord from the heart. Bible intake equips us to most effectively encourage one another, and to worship God in a way that most pleases Him.
