What is the Gospel?

The gospel is simple and should be communicated in a simple manner (1 Cor. 2:1-5). When Paul came to Corinth, he did not preach using great eloquence or persuasive words of human wisdom, but in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit must persuade men of the truth of the gospel! Paul’s message was simple. He preached Jesus Christ and Him crucified. The gospel is Jesus Christ (who He is), and what He did (He died on the cross and rose again after living a perfect life). A person must believe the gospel in order to be saved (1 Cor. 15:1-5). You must believe that Jesus Christ is who the Bible claims Him to be – He is God! “Therefore, I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:24). And You must believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again. “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
