The Coming of Christ

When Jesus predicted the destruction of the temple, His disciples asked Him when it would happen (Mat 24:1-3). The Lord informed them later in the discourse that it would take place within a generation or forty years (Mat 24:34). The disciples also asked Him for the sign of His coming and end of the age. Jesus began His answer to these questions by indicating the signs that would be observed throughout this age up until the time of His coming (vv.4-14). He then gave them the sign which would indicate when the temple was about to be destroyed (vs.15; cf. Mark 13:4, 14; Luke 21:7, 20). After warning them to flee Judea when they saw this sign of the abomination of desolation (Mat 24:15-22), Jesus turned His attention to their second question regarding the sign of His coming and end of the age (Mat 24:23-31). He first warned them of the coming of false christs (vv.23-28), and then spoke to them of the sign of His coming (vv.29-31).
