Something very important was about to take place. Someone very special was about to be born. Otherwise, why would God send an angel to announce it?! The fulness of time had come and God was about to send His Son! The woman who was blessed among all others to conceive and bear the Messiah was a lowly peasant girl named Mary (Luke 1:26-38). That a poor woman of Nazareth would give birth to the King of Kings is one of the great marvels of Christmas. That she was a virgin was even more astonishing! Truly nothing is impossible with God!
The One born on Christmas Day will one day rule the nations. He will return to earth as King! He will rule over Israel forever, but all the nations will worship Him as their King! As the prophet Zechariah foretold, “And the LORD shall be King over all the earth” (see Zec.14:9).
