God did not choose and call us to salvation because of our status in the world (1 Corinthians 1:26-31). According to this passage, God did not call many wise people according to the world’s standards, or powerful people or people of noble birth. In fact, God chose the foolish, and the weak to put to shame those who are wise and powerful. He chose those who are not of noble birth, those who are despised in this world, and those who are not in order to bring to nothing those who are. God typically calls to salvation those who are nothing according to this world in order to shame or bring to nothing those who are something by the world’s standards. He does it this way that no one should glory in His presence. Those who are in Christ have only God to thank! Paul concluded this passage, “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God — and righteousness and sanctification and redemption — 31 that, as it is written, ‘He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.’” (1 Corinthians 1:30-31)
